Episode 2 - New Beginnings
Alexa play “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield!
I’m going to be really honest, I’ve been trying to write this blog post this whole month. It hasn’t been easy to just write it out. I kept changing my mind on what I wanted to talk about and then I got into a not so great headspace causing me to lose any motivation to write. On top of that, it’s been a busy month for me. I started a new job, learned a new skill, and said goodbye (hopefully more of a see you later) to some friends due to them chasing their dreams.
Here we are at the last day of May. All throughout the month, I kept telling myself “April showers bring May flowers” because a lot had been going on and is still going on. I’ve been desperately trying to ground myself and seek out those flowers. It made me come to a realization though.
It got me thinking about change and how it is inevitable. Change can be very sneaky or very obvious. Sometimes you don’t realize change is happening and sometimes it slaps you in the face. It’s a part of life and I think it’s a beautiful thing that’s both happy and sad.
Change causes New Beginnings. There can’t be anything new or a start to something without change. A new beginning can literally be anything! It doesn’t matter how big or how small, they are there and they are everywhere. A new friendship, a new job, moving away, getting married, being single, a different mindset, learning a new skill, etc. There’s literally so many new beginnings one can go through and sometimes at the same time.
As exciting a new beginning can be, it can also be quite scary. They are uncontrollable, unavoidable and overwhelming, whether they are “happy” or “sad”. How do we deal with them? We can’t stop them and we can’t dodge them.
Here is my unwarranted advice:
1. Don’t Forget to Breathe
Take a second to relax and do a breathing exercise. A deep belly breath really goes a long way.
2. Pat Yourself on the Back
Remind yourself that YOU ARE PROUD OF YOU! You have been resilient through all the bullshit life is throwing at you and you are getting through it. If you feel like you can’t be proud of yourself right now, know that I am proud of you!
3. Take It Day by Day
I always have to remind myself of this one. You can’t control when things happen, sometimes they take their time and sometimes it’s all at once. Rome wasn’t made in a day and it takes a village. Don’t think you have to.
4. Call Your Bestie
Not literally. You should definitely reach out to someone though. You are NOT alone. There are people in your life that are there for you and are rooting for you every step of the way. You don’t have to face everything by yourself. I’m still learning this one.
5. Wash Your Face
You can control your hygiene. Wash your face, brush your teeth, take a shower. These are things you can control. Feeling clean and fresh can help you feel ready to take on the day! Also a nice long hot shower can help clear the mind.
As someone who is an overthinker and is prone to be controlling, I like to think of the phrase Everything Happens for a Reason. It helps me feel at ease with the silly, crazy, wacky situations that happen to me. I don’t know about you but 2024 has been quite the silly, crazy, wacky year for me. This phrase is not a guarantee though, sometimes life sucks and there is no lesson attached to it.
That being said, New Beginnings aren’t something to fear. They can lead you down new and amazing paths. They can even inspire someone else to try something new. My friend's New Beginnings inspired me!
